At Billanook we offer a Piano on Keyboard Program for student from Foundation to 6 during school hours.
The Piano on Keyboard Program has been conducted at Billanook for approximately twenty years. It teaches children from Level 1 upwards to sight read and play music. All equipment is supplied and children are taught one at a time in a group comprising of no more than three students, for half an hour per week. We currently have three teachers operating on Wednesday afternoons during lunchtime and from 2:30-3:30pm in school time. There is also an after school program on Wednesdays from 4:00pm until 4:30pm.
The cost per half hour lesson is $16.50 payable a term in advance. We follow the school terms and do not operate in school holidays or public holidays. Catch-up lessons are offered for any absence necessitated by a school activity. The children learn to sight read and play on keyboards as teachers set sequential tasks for each song which each child in turn must master before presenting their song as correctly as possible to earn a Pass.
The children love this program because it encourages them to master the sequential process involved in sight reading each song. They often play for a small audience and are sometimes willing to share what they have learned by playing in front of a class of children. It is a wonderful program. Our keyboard teachers are all very competent musicians but in addition each teacher has to master the methodology which is unique to this program.
This program presents with the highest commendations. Why not give your child this opportunity to learn to sight read and play music? Learning to play piano has proven benefits for so many other facets of children’s development.
